26Tanauan Sta. Cruzan, Flores de Mayo and Fiestas
Filed Under (Church) by Kenneth Villegas on 26-05-2007
During May, fiestas are almost every other day here in Tanauan. This is because is it harvest time. And most of there barangay fiesta falls during this time. I can still remember during one election instead of giving calendars for that year. He gave fiesta calendar, where all the barangay fiestas here in Tanauan was there.
Barangay Fiestas in Tanauan during May:
(I’ll post the data later on)
Another celebration that happens during May is the Flores de Mayo. Children offer flowers and prayers to Mama Mary every afternoon. And at the end of May, Sagala processioned in town.
And who would forget the Sta. Cruzan. Most organization or group celebrates during this time. Of course this happens also mostly at last week of of May. Others, pray the Novena, some prays only for three days and still others for one day. Sta. Cruz is mostly prayed by the older folks because there are some spanish prayers that are being sung. I could still remember when I was small we don’t pray attentively but when the part where “Ang Bandera sa langit gin buklad…” is sung, thats the time I straighten up. It means the long prayer has finally come. This tradition is also practised by Zones and/or Barangay where they have a procession and is done during the evening. So that, after which a procession with lighted “parol” is brought.
May is time really a time for family affairs, get together and of course acquintances for most of us Tanauananons. I hope this tradition will go on and on.
Ipadayon Tanauan!

Pagkatapos ng bandera sa langit, kainan na. Masaya! Ganyan din ang na-feel ko tuwing mag-babakasyon sa Tanauan noong maliit pa ako. Sarap ma-recall. heheh!

Its good to reminisce the old days when, during May, we had the flores de Mayo. Everyday, we offer flowers to Mama Mary. Afterwhich, we were given candies or Marie nga biskwit… hehehe
