30-12-07_1556The local government of Tanauan is now pushing for the acquisition of the Bantay Dagat area of the Tanauan shores for them to make this as a permanent site for the well-received and –accepted annual Skimboarding competition.

In an interview SPAWNorg President Larry Basas revealed that even the President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, asked the Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) that owns the said lot, to award these grounds to the local government of Tanauan for them to have more permanent plans laid out for this annual event that draws more and more crowd every year.

Basas said Tanauan being the Skimboarding capital of the country, will reap so many benefits once this lot is awarded to them since organizers of the annual Skimboarding competition like SPAWNorg, can now come up with permanent structures that will house the equipment and facilities used for this event.

Permanent edifice and buildings will be built all over the place that will cater to visitors not only from other parts of the country but also from all over the world. Tanauan LGU plans to construct stores, hotels, stage, and the likes that will be used for the Skimboarding competition alone. This way, more stable facilities can be banked on each time the said event happens. So much effort and resources are wasted in building temporary shelters, tents and edifices every year for the annual Skimboarding contest and the only way to counter this dilemma is to put up permanent ones.

Making a permanent site for this Skimboarding competition will also be beneficial and be of great use to prep the planned international Skimboarding contest this year.

SPAWNorg, PSA and Tanauan LGU hopes to get a positive nod on this effort this year in time for the 5th National Skimboarding Competition come December 2008.

  1. This is great news! However, I hope that the government will come up with a good site development plan and hire qualified professionals to do the job. I suggest to come up with a competition and invite architecture students from LIT to submit their designs, or do the same to registered architects in the area. They can contact the United Architects of the Philippines in Tacloban.

  2. I am one with HG in saying that it really is a great news! I also congratulates Hilario Basas for showing a great deal of leadership as activities like these are milestones not just of the hometown but of a new breed of tanauananon with a new mindset.
I have heard so many stories of skimboarding among friends, most of which are focused on the skim boards, the fun and the beaches. I once asked, where did it started? How was it invented? Who started it? The answer was not clear … Maybe because theres still no one to cliam accountable of the origins of the sport.
I too am from Tanauan, and just like any tanauananon, Im proud Tanauan is one way or another associated to skimboarding. In fact I havent heard of any other town more associated to skimboarding than my hometown.
Some say it started in Tanauan, on one of those shores in bachelor. If it then is true, I suggest we start claiming it now! The stablishment of a permanent structure as your group is suggesting will put a permanent mark not only on the shores of tanauan but on any nationality enjoying the sport skimboarding.
By then skimboarding will not just be tought of as may have started in Tanauan but : Skimboarding born in Tanauan!
I pray you get all the support you need…and goog luck!

  4. hi mr. Chico,
this is according to Mr. Juan Duazo of PSA in an interview with him:
    ————-
“…actually, Skimboarding is done by some in other parts of the country. However, Tanauan became the Skimboarding capital because the town has the highest saturation of skimmers and riders in the country. I think skimmers in Tanauan grow like mushrooms overnight. A lot of Tanauanons love the sport and almost every day, a new skimmer is born here in Tanauan. This is well-received sport here in Tanauan and it is definitely here to stay.”
    ————-
and for me, i think Tanauan really had staked their claim on the sport so we can safely say that “SKIMBOARDING is synonymous to TANAUAN”, one doesn’t go anywhere without the other.

  9. Mr.wasawaybitch,

So you are a futbol fanatic eh!! Then keep to your sport!! If there is nothing nice you say about skimboarding , hdp , say something about your futbol. Or you’re just like some other THs - crazy about the game but the game ain’t crazy about them at all!! Meaning = losers!!

Those guys at Tanauan are doing something good for the the town. They are promoting the sport and the place. And you have to post something like skimboarding sucks?? Man, you’re something !!! I hope your favorite futbol team finally gets some points!!

The guy below says you are from Cebu. Right?? So who killed Magellan?? And who killed Lapulapu? Of course this has nothing to do with sports!! The answer is a wee nasty - to you!!

And another thing. Why the hell the Cebuanos don’t appreciate those from MAYNILA but still them bisayas are flocking to Manila and some of them even ending up miserably in the slums?? Why???

NB: FUTBOL is how we spell it in QUITO!! Don’t know where on earth is this place?? Ask the football players!! Ciaoooooooo!!!

  10. Mr.Chico,

I am not really sure if someone has already sent something like this.I have surfed to this website,”SkimOline” and there is something that says about the early beginnings of skimboarding. In short the “HISTORY” of skimboarding. So when you have time or anyone else interested in this young water sport being popularized by the Tananuan guys, there it is.

I hope this has helped in someway as an information about this growing water sport in the shores of Tanauan. Hirani ay na an summer ngan seguro damo iton mga magpaparticipar hiton nga competition!! There might be even some banyagas or dayuhans who’d come to Tanauan to compete in the event. Welcome all people!! Competitors and visitors as well.Manalo ang magaling.Dayo o local!! Sana e me magpost ng video ng competition na darating.

Mabuhay ang Tanauan!! Ipadayon an pagunlad!! Salamat po!! Ciaoo!!
