“Big steps come from small beginnings.” This came to my mind as I was reading through the feasibility study sent by one of our web visitors for the Tanauan, Leyte Public Market. Who would have thought that Tanauan, Leyte, with its humble beginnings, is now a 2nd class municipality. I did not know this. Again who would have thought that our beloved town earned Php56,000,000 (fifty six million pesos) gross income in 2007 and is projected to earn more in 2008. For the benefit of our readers, the breakdown of the income is given in Table 1 of the feasibility study and the breakdown is as follows: (Download the FS here)

FS-TABLE 1

This is a privilige speech of Sen. Ping Lacson delivered on September 15, 2008 at the Senate.

Distinguished colleagues, / members of the Senate of the 14th Congress /of this once proud and great Republic, // ladies and gentlemen: /

I stand on a matter of personal and collective privilege.//

In a press conference called by the Senate President inside his office last Tuesday, / he virtually declared war against some of his colleagues, / this representation included. /

Mr. Senate President, / if you are telling us to bring it on, / just like a confident poker player with winning cards would say - / and I now say to you – /// All in. /

There is an Indian proverb that goes like this://

Tell me a fact / and I will learn. //
Tell me the truth / and I / will believe.//
Tell me a story // and it will live forever in my heart.//

Ladies and gentlemen of this august chamber,/

These are the facts://

On page 563 of the 2008 General Appropriations Act,/ — under the DPWH budget Item B Point 1 Point A Point G, // P200 million was appropriated for the construction of the President Carlos P. Garcia Avenue Extension / from South Luzon Expressway to Sucat Road in Parañaque City including ROW.//

On page 646 of the same budget book, / under the same heading for DPWH budget / Item B Point H, Point 7, // another P200 million was appropriated for the extension of C-5 Road including ROW. // C5 Road is what we formerly call President Carlos Garcia Avenue. / The project covers the same stretch – / also from the South Luzon Expressway to Sucat Road in Parañaque City.//

Distinguished colleagues, / please allow me to very simply describe these two appropriations - // one is to extend Carlos P Garcia Avenue from SLEX to Sucat Road in Paranaque City including Right-of-Way; // the other is to extend C-5 Road from SLEX to Sucat Road in Paranaque City including Right-of-Way. /

Masterful? // Maybe. // Neat? /// Well,/ almost./

Carlos P. Garcia Ave. and C-5 Road are one and the same. /// and so is everything else that precedes and follows.

You need not be an expert on the national budget to find malice in this situation – // only a keen eye and a strong motivation to pull this country out of the deep pits of corruption.// Read the rest of this entry »

One Of Those Days

A woman married for some time with several kids was preparing for work. She asked her husband something and instead of answering her grumbled about. The woman just dismissed this thinking it was just one of those days. She went on to leave for work.

At work the woman went about her chores stopping every now and then to chat with someone on somethings concerning her job. It was always like this. Her officemates always see her like this. Any hitches and turns that she faces she just mumbles “oh it is just one of those days.”

At a party of an old friend, the friend commented that the woman looked trully happy. So she asked her about her family, her work, her social life to which the woman just answered with an “ok” and a smile. Believing that this is the real score, the friend congratulated the woman for her life saying she hoped she had the kind of life the woman had and she was as happy as her. The woman just told her “oh dont worry you will have it in time, just think of the bad days as just one of those days.”

One day the woman left work early. This was unusual for her so her officemates teased her about having a date with her husband to which the woman just smiled. Unknown to everyone, the woman was going somewhere to cry her heart out. She left early so she still could be home on time. Earlier in the week the woman got to know of her husband’s indiscretions and was badly hurt. She wanted to lash out at him but could not do so since the kids would be there. She wanted to hurt him the way she was hurt but she thought that it would be stooping down to his husbands level. So she just cried for the love that was lost. She just felt pity for herself for loving someone who was not loving her as much in return. She felt lost. She wanted to ask what she did to deserve such treatment but could not. Finally she just settled for the thought that she was not what her husband wanted and would make her husband happier if she just let him go.

At home the woman went on appearing very calm. At work she was the same woman her officemates knew. The one thing that she could not do was to stay the same to her husband. Nobody else knew what she knew except her. Never did she discuss this with her husband. As time went on, the marriage was broken and friends soon knew about it.

They asked the woman why she did not tell them. Who comforted her? Who was with her? Did she have someone new? How could she go on as if nothing was happening?

The woman replied “oh I just treated it as one of those days.”

The moral of the story? Happiness is not found in somebody else. You have to decide to be happy. There are times in our life that we may feel God has left us and ask ourselves what we did to deserve the bad things that are happening to us. In those times always remember it is not your will but the Lord’s will that will be done.

I asked for Strength………
And God gave me Difficulties to make me strong.

I asked for Wisdom………
And God gave me Problems to solve.

I asked for Prosperity………
And God gave me Brain and Brawn to work.

I asked for Courage………
And God gave me Danger to overcome.

I asked for Love………
And God gave me Troubled people to help.

I asked for Favors………
And God gave me Opportunities.

I received nothing I wanted ……..
I received everything I needed!

Trust in God. Always !

Happy weekend everyone!!!
